Scottish
Tambourelli Under 16s Championships 18th
November 2012
Plenty of Under 16s turned up to test their skills against
players from different clubs and places. The standard of play was exceptionally
high. The original club run at the Merrick Leisure Centre, Newton Stewart is
still turning out exemplary players.
The volunteers were happy to referee games all day. All the
children were kept busy by playing everyone else in their group and then
playing Doubles games with a random partner from the different age group. Malachy
Wight and Andrew Cannon, two players from Wigtown Club showed their ability by winning the Mixed Doubles
against Barnaby Williams and Jodie Salfenmoser. The Under 9s Girl winner was Vanessa Ho, the
mixed Under 9s winner was Rory Mann playing Charlie in a quality final. The 9 –
11 girls winner was Jodie Salfenmoser beating Bethany Proudfoot. The 9 – 11 boys
was the biggest class. The final was between Newton players both playing very
well. Ruairi Beattie managed to retain his title playing Aiden Brock. The Girls
12 – 15 winner was Sheree Johnston playing Lindsey Barr. The 12 – 15 Mixed
group was won by Rowan Appleton – Wickens from South London Tambourelli against
Fraser Dawson, Newton Stewart. This was a great match going to 3 games and 5
deuces before Rowan claimed the victory.
All the entrants received a Tambourelli T shirt. Chloe Bruce
was thanked for organising the event and gratefully received a T shirt from
Wigtown Tambourelli Club. The volunteers wish to thank the players for coming along
, playing well and being good sports. And congratulations to the regulars who’s
commitment to the game has enabled some excellent quality play.
